Compasso d’oro winners

First awarded in 1954, the ADI Compasso d’Oro Award is the oldest and most renowned design award in the world. It was established by Gio Ponti, driven by the desire to exalt and make known the quality and sophistication of Italian design in the world. In over fifty years of history, about 300 projects have been awarded the Compasso d’Oro, and over 2000 have been selected by the ADI’s Permanent Design Observatory, which every year assesses the best products of the moment.

 All the objects that have made the history of design and have been awarded the Compasso d’Oro are collected and kept in the Historical Collection of the ADI Compasso d’Oro Award, created in 2001 by ADI itself to protect and enhance this important heritage.

Tonietta chair by Enzo Mari

Enzo Mari was one of the most beloved and award-winning designers ever. His most famous works include the Tonietta chair for Zanotta (winner of the Compasso d’Oro in 1985). This product is an example of how a thorough study in research and development is essential to create products that are both aesthetically impeccable and extremely functional.

MT3 for Driade

Winner of the award in 2008, MT3 was born from a project by Ron Arad Associates for Driade. A hollow structure characterizes this monobloc rocking chair, hence the name (read in English, the abbreviation MT has the same sound as the word “empty”), polyurethane. What makes it so unique? The futuristic shape associated with a product from another era, such as the rocking chair.
